Weft Hair Extensions Versus Tape Hair Extensions

Hair extensions are the best way to create an instant transformation without a complete change of hair colour. You add weight and volume to your natural hair without the stress of making a permanent change. We think it’s worth a try because it’s relatively quick and a complete confidence builder.

When it comes to hair extensions the options can be a little overwhelming. What is best for me? How do they work? How many will I need? Let’s break it down into the types of hair extension that we work with: Weft Extensions and Tape Extensions.

Weft Hair Extensions

Weft hair extensions are made from 100% human hair which have been sewn onto a horizontal weft. This hair is secured to your own hair by either a small bead or sewn in along a track made from beads (slightly confusing but you will get the hang of this once we get going). Weft extensions are great for creating volume in fine hair with the ability to just add a single row while maintaining your current length.

If you wanted something dramatic and were thinking of long mermaid tresses - you can have extensions up to 26 inches in length. Usually requiring anywhere from 3-5 rows depending of the thickness and length of your hair.

Weft hair extensions are comfortable, invisible and when looked after correctly can last up to 12 months before needing to be replaced.

Wefts should be ‘moved up’ every six weeks to avoid your natural hair matting at the scalp. It’s important not to miss your 6 weekly move ups as this can be damaging not only on the extensions but to your own hair too. Moving up your extensions involves having them all removed and then reapplied near your scalp. As your hair grows your extensions will grow down with your hair creating a gap between your scalp and the extension, similar to when a perm grows out.

How do I look after my extensions?

It does take some level of commitment to wear any type of Hair Extensions. They can be washed and conditioned like your own hair but it is recommended that extensions are dried thoroughly before going to bed at night to help avoid matting at the scalp. Brushing extensions regularly with a detangle comb can also increase the longevity of them. Being gentle with your extensions is an absolute must so they do not lose hair and become thin. Also regularly applying treatments to the extensions – as they are human hair, they need moisture to keep them from becoming fluffy and flyaway just like your hair.

Tape Hair Extensions

Tape in extensions have an adhesive strip that allows us to take a small amount of your hair and sandwich it between two extensions. They are around 1 inch in width and can be used in the hair in a number of different ways:

1: A fashion colour – this is a great way to add a flash of colour without the long and possibly damaging process of bleaching and recolouring hair.

2: Fill out sides – if you are trying to grow out damaged sides, tape-in extensions are an amazing option.

3. Fullness – create instant fullness to fine hair

4. Length – with a full head of tape in extensions you can create length and volume
